“I love the peace I find sitting in Haiti looking out over the ocean. There you find the horizon, where water meets sky. It is a change and a change to something new is exciting and beautiful and sometimes really hard. The horizon is the tip of that change and requires strength and dignity.” – Julie Hulstein
This month, we are focusing on the word Horizon. We are delving into the beauty of new beginnings. We are all experiencing new horizons and fresh starts each day, each season and with each new chapter of our lives. In order to fully understand this exercise, we have created a meditation for you that will help you uncover what is on your horizon.
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43: 18-19
It can be difficult to leave what is behind us in the rear view, but there is so much beauty in looking ahead, in aspiring toward the future and the promises that God has for us there. Looking ahead, what do you see for yourself? Do you see joy and contentment or are you overwhelmed with a sense of worry and anxiety at the thought of the unknown. If you find yourself identifying with worry, ask yourself why. What is holding you back from finding that deep rooted sense of contentment?
In each new season, you have the opportunity to involve yourself in the change that is coming with a sense of prayerful excitement. Picture your horizon. What do you want to see there? Pray about it. Spend time talking with God about what is coming your way in the next week, month, or year. When you allow yourself the space to pray on it, to engage with what lies ahead, you usher in God’s presence and peace.
Your horizon is filled with hope and promise. That is guaranteed. God is always doing new things in us and we will not be forsaken. Find comfort in God’s relentless love. You do not have anything to worry about in this new season. Allow everything to unfold in its time.
